Designing circuits for our Iron Man!

Alas, we are nearing the end of our topic on Robots.

We have learned so much already about electricity and how it works, about drawing and making circuits, using components, nevermind all the amazing learning that stemmed from our close look at the Ted Hughes book, The Iron Man.

To put in one word, it has been awesome.

To show you just how much the children in Y3C have developed their understanding over the past few weeks I've included 2 short videos from this afternoon's session on electricity.

The 'Tin-Foil Man' in our class seemed to have printed a message for us to read. Even though he was quite rude to Mr. Cusack, the children still jumped at the chance to help him become more like a real robot. They broke into groups and designed a circuit to go inside the Tin-Foil Man. Here are 2 of the groups discussing what they are doing:

Let me just say that I was incredibly impressed with the high level of understanding that I observed this afternoon when the children were discussing what and why they needed certain components for their circuits. In one of the videos, Dayna pretty much explains the difference between conventional current (positive to negative) and the actual flow of electrons (negative to positive) - secondary school level understanding! Well done everyone.

Mr. Cusack.
